Winnall Primary School

Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 to provide schools with funding to support children in low income families who were eligible for free school meals, looked after children and families with parents in the armed forces. At Winnall Primary School, we ensure that this is carefully targeted so that there is an impact on improving children's learning and well-being.

For each child who is eligible for pupil premium funding, the school receives £1385.

Is your child eligible for the Pupil Premium Grant?

From September 2014 all children who are in reception, year 1 or year 2 in a state-funded school will be offered a free healthy school lunch. From January 2015 all children under five will receive free milk and all children in receipt of free schools meals (FSM) will be offered free milk.

Those children who are five and over and not in receipt of FSM will be able to buy milk through the schools payment scheme.

Pupil Premium funding is given to schools based on eligibility for Free School Meals over the last 6 years (excluding the infant free school meals provision). Your child will be eligible for Free School Meals (and additional Pupil Premium funding for the school to support your child) if you or your partner are receiving any of the following benefits:

  • Income Support.
  • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income of £16,190 or less, as assessed by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs

How should I apply?

Applying is really quick and easy – you can apply online.  Please see the link below.

If you have any problems with applying for this support, please call the school on 01962 853889

No one will know you have registered and it will not affect any other benefits you are claiming.

Alternatively if you would like the either of the school to check on your behalf, call in to the school office.  Note we will need parent’s name, parent’s date of birth and parent’s national insurance number.

Your help and co-operation is greatly appreciated.
