Winnall Primary School

Attendance

Attendance

At Winnall Primary School, we believe that regular school attendance is essential to enable children to flourish and achieved their potential: it is our duty to relentlessly strive to promote high attendance for all of our students. Avoidable days off leave children vulnerable to falling behind academically, socially and emotionally. Routines that children develop around attendance and punctuality at school are the same that they will take forward in their lives so it is vital that we nurture a positive and proactive approach to high attendance. At Winnall we understand that barriers to attendance are complex therefore we continue to prioritise cultivating a safe and supporting environment at school as well as a strong and trusting relationship with children and their families.

Attendance Matters

Absence Procedure

If your child is not well enough to come in to school, please phone the school office as early as possible, and ideally before 9.30am.

We have an absence line (01962 853889 - then press option 1) which makes it easy to leave a message with the child's name, class and reason for absence.

Absence can also be reported via email (adminoffice@winnall.hants.sch.uk) if preferred.

We will telephone parents/carers of any child who is not at school and their absence hasn't been reported as a safety measure.

Important Information

Only genuine and honest absence will be authorised. You will be required to provide medical evidence/certificates if your child has a poor attendance record.

We can no longer authorise any family holidays in term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Please be aware that holidays taken during term time may result in the issue of a fixed penalty notice of £60 per child per parent. Failure to pay the fine will result in court action.

Finally there is a clear link between good attainment and good attendance at school - good attendance really does help!
