Games for Summer half term

Friday 8th January

Maths - Carrying on with our topic on lengths. Please complete the worksheet. There are two levels again.

English - Using the example of instructions, can you spot some imperative verbs. Remember that imperative verbs are bossy verbs that tell us what to do e.g. put, take and mix. Underline or highlight the words and try to make your own imperative word list. As an extra challenge try adding your own.

Science - Using the mind map sheet or buy drawing your own I would like to know everything you know about plants. In the centre of your mind map write: What do we know about plants?', and then add everything you can remember. This might be key words, it could be things you learnt with Miss Warren and Mrs MacDonald or it could be from home. You don't need to look things up as this activity will tell us what to teach you next.

PE - At school we will be having PE today so I would like to give you the opportunity to get active. You could do this as part of your daily walk, you could set up a sock in the wash basket throwing competition or you could try doing keepie uppies with a toilet roll (don't forget to ask a grownup for permission).

Keep sending in your brilliant work. Hoping you have a wonderful weekend. You and your parents deserve a rest.

Thursday 7th January 2020

English - Today we are writing expanded noun phrases for the things that Rosie Revere might use in her inventions. I have included a colour chart so we can continue using more exciting words to describe them. Remember to choose an object to be your noun and then add two adjectives in front of it - e.g. beautiful, black cat.

Maths - continuing on with measurement please complete a sheet looking at measuring in meters. This is something that we haven't covered in a while. There are 2 different challenge levels.

Vikings - finish off any other Viking activities and have a go at putting on the map where the Viking Homelands and Settlements were. You can use coloured pencils if you have them to make a key. If you don't have these available you could use dots as one of your keys and diagonal lines as another.

Times table rockstars - have a go at times table rockstars this afternoon. Let me know at the blue class email address if there are any problems logging on.

I'm looking forward to seeing what else you get up to. Please send any work to blue@winnallprimary.co.uk.

Wednesday 6th January 2020

English - Please read or re-listen to our story from yesterday. I have included the pages of the book. Can you find the words which you do not know the meaning of and look them up in a dictionary? If you would like an extra challenge then see if you can find any synonyms for those words. Remember we learnt that a synonym is a word that means the same or has a very similar meaning, e.g. huge, ginormous and gigantic are synonyms of big.

Maths - Today we are recapping what we learnt about measuring last term. Have a go at one of the two maths sheets. There are two challenge levels. Choose the one that you think is best for you.

Reading comprehension - Read the sheet about the Vikings and answer the questions so you have lots of knowledge ready for our Viking afternoon. Please note we normally spend 30 minutes on comprehension. Some children may find this harder to do so if you spend this long and have had lots of conversations with your child then don't worry if you do not complete every question.

Vikings afternoon - I have planned a selection of Viking related activities. See the instruction sheet to pick yours!!

I can't wait to see what you do. We will be doing the same work in school. Please send any work to the class email address: blue@winnallprimary.co.uk. We are hoping to set up another system to receive your work but for now a photo sent to this address will be perfect.

Tuesday 5th January 2020

Handwriting - please download the sheets. You have a choice between a tracing sheet or writing in your best handwriting. In class we have been practicing without the tracing sheet. Remember to join your writing. The amount you write depends on your speed of writing. Most children should write the first page while some may move on to the second. Aim for 30 mins.

Maths - choose times table activities according to your level. You can also try timestable rockstars to give your scores a boost.

English - all the information is on the sheet.

If you would like anything else to do then time reading is always well spent. Try finding words you don't know the meaning of and start your own dictionary.

Welcome back!

Our new big question this term is 'What make us unique?'

PE is on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please wear you PE kit to school on those days.

Extra work you can do at home

There were a few requests at parents evening about what you can do to help support your children from home. Here are a few options for you to try.

1. Spellings - I have uploaded the words that children should know by the end of year 2 and the end of year 4. We will be working through them in class but it may be useful to recap the children's knowledge from previous years to keep them fresh in their minds. Try using some of the strategies that were sent home for homework.

2. Times tables rockstars and numbots - both of these will help support children's maths. I have sent home a log on for the children which allows them to access these sites. The results from these games will come through to me so I can adjust the level of challenge. If you find any problems with the questions that are coming up then please contact me so I can change the settings.

https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth

https://play.numbots.com/#/account/school-login/46583

Another good website is Hit the Button which includes games that promote fluency in number bonds, doubling, halving and times tables. http://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

3. Reading - Please continue reading with your children and discussing what they have read. I have attached a list of questions that you can use during your discussions.

If you are looking for some more books to read try logging on to www.oxfordowl.co.uk. I have set us up a class logon where you can access free ebooks.

4. Writing - The area that most children are finding the hardest is writing for long periods. One way we can support them is to help them to increase their vocabulary. Try short activities where children come up with as many different words as they can to describe an object or a setting. These will really help develop their writing in school. If you would like to do more structured writing then always allow for this time to generate vocabulary and creating an order before starting.

Extra work if self-isolating

If you have to self isolate and are feeling well enough to work then I have attached two packs below.
